UGSCA 2025-26: Three centuries and 12 wickets earns Lake Grace’s Dylan Brooks the cricketer of the year award

Lake Grace star Dylan Brooks was named the Upper Great Southern Cricket Association’s A-grade player of the year during the grand final presentations at Wandering on Saturday. His season comprised 491 runs, which included three centuries, plus 12 wickets. He was also a useful man in the field, taking five catches and getting one run out. The player with the best batting aggregate was Perrin Quartermaine, of Towns, who came agonisingly close to 500 for the season but ended just one run short. He managed one century and five half-centuries. Cuballing’s Brock Francis took two gongs, nailing both the batting and bowling averages. His batting average of 307 came about because his century and two 50s were all not out – giving him only one dismissal in five innings. His bowling average of 7.33 was equally impressive as he claimed 21 wickets for 154 runs. His best was 7-8 off 10 overs against Towns. Mitchell Ackland, of Towns, and his 24 wickets, claimed the best bowling aggregate. Ackland was also named the under-21 cricketer of the year with 498 points, gathered from his 118 runs, 21 wickets and two catches. Byron Blevin, who hit an unbeaten century in Cuballing’s grand final win, won a Life Member Medal as the man of that match. The B-grade cricketer of the year was Kavindu Gamith Indeewara Chandrasena Pallik Kondagenot, of minor premiers Wagin who scored 707 points. He also topped the batting aggregates along with teammate Dwight Kellow, both scoring 322 for the campaign. Boddington’s Luke Brown had the best batting average with an impressive 81.33. There was a four-way tie for the bowling aggregate as Henry Blechynden, Samuel Parsons and Curtis Hull, all of Pingelly-Noorebin, plus Towns’ Jack Warburton, each took 19 wickets. The bowling average was won by Boddington’s Darcy Andrews’ 8.08 while the under-21 cricketer of the year was Jaemeson Davidson, of Wagin, who collected 495 points. The association’s awards went to Wandering’s Ben McMillan in the A-section team with Boddington’s Andrews earning his second mention of the evening as the best of the UGSCA second side. McMillan scored 226 points for his 26 runs, nine wickets and two catches at country week.
