Wagin in convincing come-from-behind win against Williams in sole A1 netball game played in round two

Wagin have defeated Williams by 15 goals in a thrilling come-from-behind win in the Narrogin and Districts Netball Association A1 competition at Wagin on Saturday afternoon.

Despite an increased number of COVID cases affecting the broader community, a healthy crowd gathered for the much anticipated clash.

Williams fired out of the gates, putting the pressure on the favourites Wagin with new star recruit Kate Poultney making her debut in goals in light of the absence of Megan Hardie.

Attackers Poultney and Mackenzie Williams played brilliantly in the first quarter, helping their side coast to a 9-6 advantage by the first break.

Wagin shifted their line-up around to start the second quarter as Marli Spooner and Jaelyn Raneri swapped their positions of goal attack and goal shooter.

Wagin’s defensive line then came alive in the last three quarters to lock down the Williams players, nullifying any attempts to feed the ball to their shooters,

They dominated the rest of proceedings, outscoring Williams 39 goals to 21 after the first term and they ran out comfortable winners, 45-30 in the high-scoring affair.

Gaige Kapene was a standout for Wagin, willing her side to victory.

Following a high number of COVID cases in the community several other fixtures were cancelled, including the A1 clash between Pingelly and Cuballing which has been rescheduled for later in the season.

NDNA president Rheannon Turton thanked all the teams and players for their efforts for stepping up to fill roles to ensure that the competition continued to go ahead during a difficult week marred with COVID.
