Giant Numbat tugs our strings

The nation’s most beloved puppetry company is heading to Hedland for the first time to deliver a weekend of shows and they are bringing a giant numbat with them.

Puppet in the Pilbara — The Last Numbat, originally commissioned by the City of South Perth, is an interactive puppetry event by Spare Parts Puppet Theatre about a lone creature which believes it is the last of its kind.

Up to 17 patrons will be able to play with the giant marionette supported by trusses and be directed by professional puppeteers in the telling of the story.

Commissioner Fred Riebeling said he welcomed back large events such as this to Hedland after the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions.

“I’d like to commend the Town for spearheading Puppet in the Pilbara — The Last Numbat, the Pilbara’s first giant interactive puppetry event,” he said

“Run over two days in October, the event will also feature a diverse selection of interactive workshops, community stalls and food vendors to supplement the puppetry’s message and boost the local economy.”

The event will be held over two days from October 24 at the Civic Centre Gardens with the support of Gold Sponsor BHP.
