The daughter of One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has described the toll that scrutiny of her mother has taken on her over the years — claiming to have suffered death threats since she was a child.
In an interview with Sky News, Lee Hanson said her mother had “been through the ringer” throughout her political career.
She added that she herself had been at the end of death threats as a result of the party leader’s divisive views.
“Oh look, she’s been through the ringer, you know, there’s no doubt about that,” she said when asked about criticism of her mother.
“Everything from prison to death threats. I had death threats when I was a child too and had to go into hiding. So yeah, it was tough.”
However, she added that her mother had taught her to cope with criticism.
“One thing my mother has taught me is resilience and tenacity, and it’s what you take from that, and it only makes you stronger, more determined,” she added.
“If you let people bring you down, then they win, and that’s not the break that I’m cut (from).
“When I see things, and I see a lot of misinformation out there, and some very horrid, horrendous personal attacks on my mum and me, it just makes me more determined.”
She went on to admit that despite her mother’s fierce criticism of net zero policies, that she herself had solar panels attached to her home in Tasmania.
“I have solar on my house, absolutely,” she said.
“Let’s keep supporting houses and businesses to put solar, because it is needed. Totally agree with that, but not at the environmental destruction of our land.”
She further called on the Liberal National Coalition to work alongside One Nation.
“One Nation is not the enemy of the Coalition,” she said.
“Let’s work together.”
