A Perth man has been seriously burnt after his robotic vacuum exploded in a freak household mishap.
Lachie Perrem was at home in Brabham on Thursday afternoon when the vacuum exploded causing him serious injuries.
The 25-year-old was taken to hospital with burns to about 75 per cent of his body.
Mr Perrem has had several operations at the Fiona Stanley Hospital burns unit and is still sedated.
He remains in a critical condition with bandages covering a majority of his body.
His fiancee has been by his bedside while his mum, who lives in Queensland, is planning to travel to WA.
Fire investigators told 7NEWS the explosion was likely due to a fault in the robotic vacuum.

The explosion has also left Mr Perrem, his fiancee, and their housemates without a home after the blaze spread from the kitchen to the living room.
Images from inside the home show the force of the explosion blew windows out and blackened the walls.
The vacuum is being inspected by the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety.
There have been three recorded instances of robotic vacuums causing fires in the past two years in WA.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help Mr Perrem financially. The page has so far raised more than $17,000.
“While our focus is on helping him survive and heal, life outside the hospital doesn’t stop,” his mum Fiona Perrem wrote.
“Bills continue to arrive and he still has financial commitments, including the repayments on his car.
“We want to ease as much of that burden as possible so that, when he wakes and begins his recovery, he can focus entirely on getting better instead of worrying about losing everything he has worked so hard for.”
