Dardanup shire president from 1992 to 1995 Danny Harris has died, leaving a lasting impact on the community he helped to govern.

Born in 1944, Mr Harris served on the Shire of Dardanup council from 1988 to 1995, including as shire president from 1992 to 1995, before returning to the council in 2011 and serving until 2018.

In a statement, the Shire of Dardanup said Mr Harris was a passionate advocate for community facilities, local sport and the continued growth of the district.

“A lifelong supporter of the Eaton Football Club, Danny played an important role in supporting the club’s relocation to Glen Huon Reserve during his time on council, helping lay the foundation for the sporting facilities enjoyed by the community today,” the shire said.

“He will be remembered for his passion for local sport and his longstanding dedication to community service.

“The Shire of Dardanup extends its sincere condolences to Danny’s family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.”

The shire flew flags at half-mast on Friday, July 17, to honour Mr Harris’ service and the day of his funeral at Dardanup.
