Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Hannan and Burt streets will come alive for ACTIV8-KB 9 Day Activation Experiment

Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s CBDs will burst into life on Thursday with pop-up street activities designed to spark curiosity, colour and energy. Delivered by Euphorium in partnership with the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the ACTIV8-KB 9 Day Activation Experiment will encourage pedestrians to pause, smile and interact. The experiment will take place in Hannan and Burt streets to prompt exploration, increase foot traffic and support retailers. Project lead Sarah-Jayne Eeles said it was all about making the Kalgoorlie-Boulder city centres more vibrant. “We’re going to have an absolute explosion — a burst of moments of wonder, delight, surprise and special interest across the two city centres,” she said. “This is an experiment, so we’re getting to throw lot of fun things into the mix so we can see what works and what people want more of.” She said many businesses and community groups had jumped on board with the project, including Goldfields Pride and Sandalwood Family Centre. The nine days of activities include a silent disco, sunset meditation, street art installations, live music, kids craft and a sundowner to wrap it all up. “South African Gourmet is opening up on Sunday for braai on Burt Street,” Ms Eeles said. “Our very own Goldfields bush poets will be reciting some of their best yarns. “We’re going to culminate in a sundowner at St Barbara’s Square for some light entertainment and activities.” Ms Eeles hopes the activation will encourage people to connect with their community and make an experience out of being out in the city. “We do love where we live, we just want more things to love about it,” she said. “It’s giving people a reason to linger longer in their city centres.” Those interested can find out more information on the 9 Day Activation Experiment Facebook event page.
