Shire of Augusta Margaret River open up community development and engagement grants for up to $330,000

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has opened grant applications for up to $330,000 for community-based events and environmental initiatives. The funds are set to come from the Community Development and Events, and Environmental Management Fund Grant, which form part of the shire’s broader community assistance grant programs. Shire president Julia Jean-Rice said the funding is about looking after people in the community. “We want to support initiatives, organisations and community groups to deliver local projects and events that make a meaningful difference to our growing community and care for our natural environment,” she said. “We’d especially love to hear from groups who are keen to help us activate our towns over the Christmas period, whether that’s through street parties, bigger events or any other fun creative ideas the community can come up with.” A further $150,000 is available through the EMF to support ongoing sustainability efforts. Cr Jean-Rice said she wants to create opportunities for the community to connect and learn new skills. “As a biodiversity hotspot, it’s vital that we not only protect our natural environment through projects such as re-vegetation, strategic weed control, or coastal management, but also increase sustainability initiatives that reduce waste and emissions,” she said. “These grants are a fantastic opportunity for community organisations to bring their ideas to life, whether that’s delivering engaging events, supporting wellbeing programs, or protecting our unique environment.” The shire has urged community groups, organisations and individuals to apply through their website. Applications close on May 13.
