Brand MHR Madeleine King has promised refurbishments for a local parent support service in Kwinana should Australia elect a Labor Government at the May 21 poll.

Labor would invest $23,500 in the Ngala Child and Parent Centre in Calista to refurbish its eastern courtyard and enhance its street presence.

The refurbishment would include colourful shade sails, outdoor furniture, nature play equipment and plants to keep children engaged.

The space would also enable families to connect and provide a location for community partner consultations.

Ngala aims to support parents, families and communities as they raise their children and young people. The Calista centre supports almost 4500 local parents and more than 4000 children every year.

Ms King visited the centre on Friday ahead of the announcement, touring the facility and speaking with centre staff.

Labor says it will bring down childcare costs for 96 per cent of families in the care system if elected as cost of living becomes the hot-button issue of the election.

In WA, grocery prices have increased by about 60 per cent since the last Federal election. But Prime Minister Scott Morrison has blamed supply chain issues due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and has pointed to his government’s $420 one-off tax break for low to middle income earners.
