Rockingham Flames season highlights for 2022

Rockingham Flames NBL1 West have had an incredible season so far with their women’s team sitting in a top seven spot and men’s team in the top two with both set to be contenders in this season’s play-offs.

Currently the women’s Rockingham Flames team sit at seventh place with an 8-10 win-loss record and the men’s team are second at 16-4.

To open the women’s season Flames took on the Mandurah Magic on their home floor at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex, a grand opening game for the two teams.

Despite Flames giving it their all, it was Magic who took home the Saturday night win losing 57 to 73.

Former WNBL star of Adelaide Lightning, Taylor Ortlepp put on a show for the Flames securing 14 points while Paris Duffield finished with 10 points, four rebounds and two steals, and Patricia Brossmann nine points, five rebounds and three steals.

Flames were back with a vengeance for round two taking on the South West Slammers, leading by 31 points to 8 in the first quarter.

By three quarter-time Flames had outscored the Slammers by 86-26 going on to secure the night’s big victory 108-44.

With previous experience with college basketball team the San Diego Toreros, German-born Patricia Brossmann made her big debut with the Flames ending the night with 24 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals.

In a nail biting game Flames took on Lakeside Lightning going toe-to-toe for the round three clash, leading 30-28 at quarter-time and 53-28 by half-time.

It was a close game with Flames just missing out on securing the win in a 103-101 victory by Lightning.

It was Flames Mehryn Kraker’s first appearance against the South West Slammers and she delivered an outstanding 24 points, eight assists, six rebounds and five steals on the back of shooting 10/20 from the floor.

As the season is drawing to a close the Rockingham Flames NBL1 West women’s side will take on the Perth Redbacks in a round 18 clash to take out the top six spot in the play-offs on Saturday August 6 at 5pm in a home game at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

The men’s NBL1 West kicked off the season with a win against Peel rivals Mandurah Magic with a 90-84 defeat.

This season the team has welcomed new additions Marshall Nelson, who had a stint at NBL’s Cairns Taipans, and Texas import and former South East Melbourne Phoenix star Devondrick Walker.

Walker’s talent captured the eye of VEF Riga recruits, where he went on to play in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League from 2021-2022.

The Rockingham Flames men’s and women’s teams will continue to battle it out for a top spot in the play-offs as they take on Perth Redbacks on Saturday August 6 at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.
