All the way win for Bunbury team
Bunbury Catholic College turned in a dominant performance at a the Marist Cricket Carnival in Victoria earlier this month, finishing the competition undefeated to claim top honours for just the second time in the school’s history.
The team, comprised of boys from Years 9-12, knocked over eastern States big guns St Gregory’s Campbelltown and Notre Dame Shepparton to secure BCC’s first national Marist carnival victory since 2008.
After a wet start to the week, in which the College’s opening game against Trinity Catholic College Lismore was rained off, the Bunbury team hit the ground running against St Gregory’s.
Opener Blaze Rosinski smashed a quickfire 92, including 10 sixes, to guide his team to a formidable total of 215.
Rosinski was also handy with the ball, claiming 3/37 in a man of the match performance to help bundle out tournament favourites St Gregory’s for 200.
That victory set the tone for the rest of the competition, the College cruising to three easy wins against St Augustine’s Cairns, host school Notre Dame and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College Alice Springs to wrap up the title.
Bunbury’s dominance was rewarded with the inclusion of four players in the Marist All Australian Team, with captain Ben Parker, wicketkeeper Brendan Jones, off-spinner Luke Slater and opening quick Ben Musitano all getting the nod from selectors.
Coach Braden Famlonga praised his team, not only for their victory, but their behaviour on and off the field.
“We really pushed the kids hard and their sportsmanship was outstanding,” he said.
“They were congratulated by teachers from other schools, saying they were the best behaved kids there.
“They were humble in victory rather than getting cocky and they really carried themselves well across the carnival.”
