Basketball Preview: the South West swings back into an action-packed summer of sport
The first basketball games of 2024 get under way tonight, as the Tronox BSBL A-Grade season resumes after the holiday break.
The Tronox BSBL A-Grade men’s competition resumes tonight at 6pm at the Eaton Recreation Centre, with the presently seventh-placed Aces White taking on the third-placed Conquerors.
On Friday three matches are scheduled to take place from 6pm at the South West Sport’s Centre; the Bulls Maroon meet the Eaton Eagles, the Aces Sky play against the Tornadoes Red and then the Bulls Gold and Tornadoes Black face off at 7.30pm.
The women’s side has a bye this round, with the first games this year back on January 9 at the South West Sports Centre.
The top of the ladder Tornadoes Black take on the Aces Sky and the Eaton Eagles meet the Aces Navy at 6pm, with the Tornadoes Red taking on the Conquerors at 7.30pm.
The B-Grade Men’s season resumes on Monday January 8 at the Eaton centre as Bull Orange take on the Conquerors Warriors and the Tornadoes Red and Bulls Maroon square off at 6.40pm.
The Tornadoes Black and the Eaton Eagles face off while the Bulls Gold and Aces White play at 7.50pm.
The Conquerors sit out this round with a bye, and will next play against the Tornadoes Red on January 15.
The B-Grade Women’s season resumes on January 11 at the Bunbury PCYC, with Aces Teal taking on Aces Navy at 6.45pm and the Conquerors facing off against Aces Sky at 8pm.
The Barr & Standley Bunbury Masters Carnival returns on January 27 for its 7th year.
The carnival sees senior teams rally from across the South West as far as Rockingham, Cockburn, Margaret River, Busselton, Bunbury, Eaton, Harvey, Mandurah and Collie.
The tournament features modified game times of 2 x 10min halves, with teams assured of a minimum of five games throughout the day.
In the meantime, the South Wests’ first 3X3 competition will hit the South West Sports Centre on January 16-18, with registrations closing soon.
Tuesday January 16 will see the U12 and U18 boys, Wednesday January 17 the U12/14/16/18 girls with the U14 and U16 boys rounding out the contest on January 18.
Registrations are $55 per player, with teams created randomly by the organising committee.
