Blog shares experience of depression

Xavier Green is not afraid to tell his story.
In fact, the 33-year-old hopes his experience with depression will help others, who might be suffering in the dark, to come forward.
Mr Green said he was diagnosed about six years ago after not feeling himself.
“I got to the root of the problem pretty quickly,” he said.
Now Mr Green shares his story through a blog and hopes to break down the stigma of depression.
“It took a bit of persuasion to do it, I had a chat with some mates about whether I should,” he said.
“After a few conversations I got the courage to jot down a few ideas about my experience with depression.
“If someone reads my blog and relates to it in some way or doesn’t feel as lonely or gets some comfort then it is serving its purpose.”
Mr Green said he wanted others who might be suffering to not feel alone.
“You need to know those dark days will pass and there is light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
“The thing is people need to reach out to their friends and family.
“In my experience there has been no negative feedback from anyone I have reached out to.
“It has just been all support and love, they want you to reach out.”
Mr Green said he was surprised by the response his blog gained.
“It is a bit overwhelming,” he said. “I have had people say they have read my blog.
“They have said it ‘really hit a nerve with me’ or ‘I can relate to that’.”
