Outgoing Eaton Boomers league coach Brett Maguire says he will explore all options heading into the 2020 SWFL season.

Maguire, who coached the Boomers for three seasons, was disappointed at being unable to extend his tenure, but still harbours a desire to coach.

It is unclear whether Maguire’s son Ethan will be at the Boomers next season, with the experienced utility having extensive work and study commitments in Perth.

“I am looking at some options,” Maguire said.

“Because at the end of it, I was still keen enough to continue to coach — it is not as though I am walking away for any other reason.

“I am certainly looking at options, but what they are ... I might be a little bit more selecting because it is a big time commitment.

“But I still love the game and feel I have a bit to offer the game. Certainly I do not think I will be jumping into the deep end, but I might be open to helping others out.”

During Maguire’s stint, the Boomers firmed as one of the SWFL’s superpowers. By adopting a passionate, physical brand of football, the Boomers qualified for the 2019 grand final, where they were held goalless for three quarters against Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault.

But despite his departure from Glen Huon Reserve, Maguire will look back fondly on his time at the club.

“When you first start out coaching, you do not really think too much more than just about coaching the game,” he said.

“So to be able to be given that opportunity with a club, the “Cardies”, I felt it was a great privilege.

“Then to play off in the 2019 grand final, as much as the result was not what we wanted, it certainly was a good result considering the journey that we had taken them on over the past two or three years.”
