A building has caught fire in Leschenault as several firefighter crews, air attack planes and a water bomber are responding to the blaze.

The fire was first reported at 1.37pm today by a member of the public who described the blaze as a 100sqm grass fire, according to a Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman.

The blaze has since spread to a building – believed to be a piggery – on Rosamel Road in Leschenault.

The DFES spokeswoman confirmed 16 fire crews had been requested, with six already on the scene and the rest on the way.

More as it comes to hand.
