Bunbury students invited to get creative in annual Aqwest water-themed photography competition

Budding young photographers are invited to submit their best water-themed photographs as submissions open for the region’s leading photography competition that celebrates the previous resource. The Aqwest annual photography competition is now accepting submissions from school students across the Greater Bunbury region. Students are challenged to get creative and explore all the unique ways they can capture the theme of water art. The highly popular competition is set to be judged by professional photographers including Sarah Henderson from Henderson Photographic and Paul Verhagen from Pyxis Services, with the winning photographs showcased in the 2023 Aqwest calendar and at a gala awards evening later this year. Submissions can be entered across two categories of Year 7 to 12 students and Year 6 and lower for the chance to win prize money for themselves and their schools. Board prizes will also be awarded to four students across the two categories. Photographer and judge Sarah Henderson said the judging panel was always amazed by the high standard of entries from students and their stunning interpretations of the water art theme each year. “It is clear that students have really thought about the theme and are planning photos with real individualism and creativity,” she said. “Once again we will be looking for good technical photos where the creativity is jumping out at us. We challenge all entrants to really go for it and go beyond the obvious.” Aqwest board chair Stan Liaros said the competition was a fun initiative to teach students about the importance of water conservation. “Through the Aqwest Photography Competition, we are engaging an important audience to help advocate for water conservation, while honing their photography skills,” he said. “Climate change means it’s more important than ever to conserve water and preserve this precious resource for future generations.” Submissions close on June 24, with all details found at www.aqwest.com.au.
