Bunbury woman fined for drunk-driving more than three times over limit while on red P’s

A Bunbury woman has been fined more than $2000 after crashing her car while drunk-driving on her red P-plates — outside of her curfew hours. Aneka May Davey, 38, appeared in Bunbury Magistrates Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to one charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and another of having no authority to drive at night. On February 10 at 1.22am, Davey was involved in a minor car crash in Australind. When police arrived at the scene, they noted that Davey’s car was displaying red P-plates — which she confirmed she was on. She did not have any note or proof indicating she was travelling between her home and work or school, which is required for P-platers bound by a midnight to 5am curfew. Davey was also breathalysed at the scene and returned a reading of 0.156 — more than three times the legal limit. Davey told police she “doesn’t drink” and only remembers having “a few mouthfuls” that evening. She also told officers she could not remember the incident, which Magistrate Stephen Butcher said he was not surprised by. “You blew 0.156, no wonder you have limited recollection of the event,” he said. The mother of four was fined a total of $2141.50 and had her licence disqualified for 10 months.
