The Eaton Eagles are excited about fielding a women’s A-Grade team for the 2019-20 Bunbury Basketball Association, according to Eagles official Daniel Gunson.

Gunson, who works as the Eagles’ A-Grade coordinator, believes the decision to field a senior team will pay off in a number of ways long-term.

“It is a great opportunity for new or past players,” he said.

“In addition, it is especially good for those who have not played for a while as they can either to dust off their old shoes or buy some new ones and hit the courts once again.

“I believe our women’s players, with their positive attitudes, will also be very encouraging towards our junior girls.

“This will hopefully encourage them to continue through to the A-Grade competition in years to come.”

In addition, Gunson told the South Western Times he is upbeat about the men’s sides chances, however is still keen for more players to join the club.

“We had really good numbers, unfortunately we lost a few players who went to other clubs, so our numbers are a little down,” he said.

“One thing we can offer is players who put in the hard yards and attending training wont be sitting on the bench for very long.”

The Eagles A-Grade men’s side finished bottom last season, with a 1-17 record.

The fixtures for the BBA men’s senior competition have been officially released, with round one tipping off tomorrow night.

Seven teams will compete in the competition, with one team having a bye each week, with a break between December 21 and January 6. Reigning premiers Bulls are tipped to win the competition again.
