Jockeying for glory in race of states
The XXXX Gold Bunbury Cup may be the race punters have their eyes on, but there is another contest which also excites the jockeys.
Race five will have the State of Origin Jockeys' Challenge, in which seven jockeys will compete for the bragging rights of their respective states.
One of the most-watched will be champion jockey Clare Lindop.
Lindop is known for being the first Australian female to ride a Melbourne Cup winner.
Today she will represent South Australia when she rides the Rod Lewis-trained Ellie's Grey, who has one career win at the race distance of 1400m.
Representing WA will be William Pike, who will be aboard a Handful of Dust.
Pike, one of the State's most experienced jockeys with more than 4000 race starts in a long career, is a chance to take out the $17,500 race.
Other jockeys include Tasmanian David Pires, Victorian Brad Rawiller, Dom Tourneur of the Northern Territory, Jay Ford of New South Wales and Jason Taylor of Queensland.
