May brought the chill

Bunbury’s weather was a mixed bag last month with several days of heavy rain still not enough to meet the May average in what was also a cold month.
Despite this, Bunbury experienced its wettest first five months of a year in 20 years.
It was also the equal coldest May recorded in terms of average maximum temperatures since the Bureau of Meteorology began using its Carey Park weather site in 1995.
There was 95mm of rain in Bunbury last month, below the long-term average of 100.7mm.
Last month’s wettest day was the 21st, when 19.6mm was recorded.
It was one of four days with more than 10mm and also the first of eight successive days featuring rain.
Overall, Bunbury has recorded 325.4mm of rain in 2016 – making it the wettest start to a year recorded at BoM’s Carey Park site.
The average minimum temperature last month was fractionally below average but the maximums were almost two degrees below the long-term figure.
Bunbury’s average minimum last month was 9.2C, just down on the 9.4C average, while the month’s average maximum temperature of 19.4C was well below the long-term figure of 21.1C.
Bunbury’s warmest day last month was 21.8C on the 13th, one of just three days that exceeded the average maximum.
