Bunbury’s Olympic Games representatives Lauren Reynolds and Ryan Bailie will return to Australia this week having both performed on the biggest stage of their careers.

Neither won a medal, but both displayed excellent skills on the world stage in Rio de Janeiro.

Bailie finished 10th in Thursday’s triathlon, having recovered from finishing 21st in the swimming leg of the race.

The 26-year-old made up great time in the cycling portion to sit in 11th and advanced his placing one more in the run home to finish the triathlon in a time of 1.47:02.

It was Great Britian’s Brownlee brothers, Alistair and Jonny who won gold and silver respectively, while South Africa’s Henri Schoeman claimed bronze.

For Reynolds, it was heartbreak in the semi-finals of the women’s BMX event.

Early on Saturday morning Reynolds started in great form, finishing in sixth place.

But a crash in the second race of the semi-finals caused the 25-year-old to finish seventh and there was too much ground to make up.

Reynolds finished strongly in the last race to finish fourth, but missed out on the final by four points and had to settle for sixth position.
