Point win leaves Willcox on crest of wave
South West Academy of Sport ambassador Jacob Willcox has secured his spot in next year’s Drug Aware Margaret River Pro trials after a dominant display at the recent Star Surf + Skate King of the Point contest.
During the final at Perth’s Trigg Beach on Sunday May 29, the 19-year-old showed his mastery by earning 9.60 and 8.03. His combined score of 17.63 made him the day’s top performer and King of the Point.
He also walked away with $1500 and a much sought after pass into the 2017 trials of the Margaret River leg of the World Surf League series.
The long-running King of the Point is hailed as one of most prestigious events on the WA metropolitan coastline, this year offering more than $10,000 in cash and prizes.
Surfers who have previously held the title include Mike McAulife, Dave Macaulay, Jake Paterson and Luke Campbell.
