Remembrance Day: Sombre Donnybrook service pays tribute to armed servicemen and women

About 30 people gathered at the Donnybrook War Memorial on Friday morning to pay their respects to those who died in service. The Remembrance Day service was led by Donnybrook RSL president Ric Evans, who spoke of the service and sacrifice of the 416,000 Australians who enlisted in the armed forces during World War I. “We have a day of remembrance, where we can express our gratitude to all those men and women — then and since — who helped keep our country free, and to acknowledge them and their families,” Mr Evans said. “Those who gave their lives to protect our way of life.” Local RSL members, school children and members of the public laid wreaths at the memorial, and Donnybrook-Balingup Shire director of operations Steve Potter laid a wreath on behalf of the shire council and staff.
