School performers go on tour
A lively and humorous production was bought to a public audience by a group of passionate and committed primary school students.
More than 40 students in Years 5 and 6 from Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School hit the road on September 21 when they took their production of the famous story, Ali Baba on tour.
A “condensed” version of the full show was taken to schools, including Picton and Eaton Primary School as well as to residential care centre Bethanie and Bunbury Centrepoint.
This followed three nights of booked out performances to the school community with a much bigger cast of 100 students.
Performing arts director Rachel Brogan said the “pop-up” show presented challenges to students who had to adapt to performing in different environments and to different audiences.
“It’s good for them to get used to performing in different venues,” she said.
Ms Brogan said performing in the shopping centre was testing.
“They’ve had to start getting used to being ignored,” she said.
Ms Brogan said the students had dedicated six months of practice to the production.
“All the kids have worked so hard,” she said.
This was the first time the production had been taken outside the school community.
