Toilet block gets a swell facelift
A local artist has added a splash of colour to brighten up a toilet block at Dalyellup Beach Surf Life Saving Club.
The mural project was a Dalyellup Collective community project run in collaboration with the Capel Shire Council and Dalyellup Beach Surf Club.
Gelorup artist Andrew Frazer presented concept designs for public consultation which decided on the final design.
Mr Frazer held workshops with children to paint the mural and bring the old brick building to life.
“This facility needs to be here and so this project is taking what exists and making it beautiful and to celebrate the creativity and engagement of young people,” he said.
Dalyellup Beach Surf Club president Yvonne Broome said the mural was a great community event and hoped it would get more people involved in the surf club.
“The kids involved can take ownership and be proud of this project,” she said.
“It will get people talking about the mural at the surf club and people will get to know about it more.”
Dalyellup Collective chairwoman and project coordinator Lisa O’Neill said the funding from the Regional Arts WA and Lotterywest grant helped make this project a reality as well as the help from the council.
“The project was to help finish off the Dalyellup Surf Club area after Bunbury MLA Don Punch kindly helped fund the new Dalyellup Surf Club Shed and Shire of Capel recently resealed the carpark,” she said.
