Rugby league-lovers are in for a treat at Ferndale Park today, with the Dalyellup Rhinos hosting a massive gala day from 10am.

On top of action at under- 6, 7 and 9 level, there will be a series of senior women’s and men’s matches.

Doing battle against the Rhinos at senior level will be the Albany Sea Dragons and Sporting Club, along with the Mandurah Storm.

In a massive thrill for the Rhinos juniors, a number of Perth-based NRL WA clubs will field junior teams on the day, which will give South West kids a real taste of quality junior rugby league in a special environment.

Combined Affiliated States coach Darren Shaw has been a key observer at Rhinos training sessions and is hopeful the day might spark further interest in rugby league throughout the region.

“I genuinely hope it goes really well,” he said. “They’ve been getting really good numbers, up to 22 players, to each training session.

“They have been doing a really great job, along with all of the support from the volunteers.

“The Mandurah game will really give them a good indication of where they need to be, as they are playing third grade in the Val Murphy Trophy this season.”
