Today is arguably the most important day on the US calendar, where millions of Americans celebrate the independence and freedom of their nation.

For beloved Printsync South West Slammers legend James Fitch and the club’s 2019 American imports, the day is equally significant.

For impressive women’s point guard Makailah Dyer, today has extra significance as her parents have travelled from Wisconsin to visit her.

“For me, the day really reminds me about family,” she said.

“On July 4 we all get together and have a barbecue while enjoying some fireworks. It reminds me of home and I’m fortunate to have my parents with me, so it’s really special.”

Dyer’s Floridian teammate Brittni Montgomery might hail from a State thousands of kilometres from Wisconsin, but she also enjoys similar things about the occasion.

Meanwhile, in the Fitch household you can be sure there will be a delicious spread, with the charismatic Mississippi born and raised Slammers legend renowned for providing the best American hospitality in the South West.
