$20K grant to bring horse riding tours in Collie

Visitors stopping in Collie could soon add horse riding to their itinerary, after a Cowaramup-based riding school was granted $20,000 to help make it a reality. As part of the Collie Futures Small Grants Program under the State Government’s $20 million Collie Futures Fund, The Humble Horse received the grant to help bolster tourism offerings in the region. And owner Linda Yates could not be more excited. With 10 years in the business, offering riding lessons and tours throughout the Busselton, Dunsborough and Margaret River region, Ms Yates was looking to branch out and had her sights set on Collie. “I ride there every second weekend – I love it,” she said. “You’re not that far away but it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere.” Ms Yates said she had the infrastructure and horses, it was just a matter of finding a base and then she would be ready to go. With well-established walk trails, driving routes, mountain bike trails and kayaking routes, Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray said horse riding tours would be a great addition to the region’s tourism offerings.
