Dunsborough Oilers’ remarkable A-Women resurgence in the Bunbury Basketball Association continued on Friday night, as they handed league leaders Tornadoes Black a 67-57 loss.

The Oilers, who entered with a three-game winning streak, displayed great resilience early in the final quarter when challenged by the league leaders.

Trailing 46-42, the visitors turned the game with a masterful 9-0 offensive run, with Calie Szczypior’s sole successful three-point shot getting her side jump-started.

Traditional offensive threats Beige Harris, Dana and Adele East contributed when required, however it was the brilliance of Shannon Verhagen (24 points) which caused the most headaches for Black’s defence.

Tornadoes Red kept the heat on the Oilers in second spot with a comprehensive 51-40 win over Aces Sky, with Cassady Anderson and Kate Fielding combining for 35 points between them.

In A-Men matches, Tornadoes Black and Aces Sky scored heavy wins over Tornadoes Red and Eaton Eagles respectively – while the Oilers improved to .500 with a 77-69 win over an Aces White side inspired by Brody England, which elevated them into fourth spot.
