The next two editions of the Australian Cricket Country Championships will be held in the South West.

The Busselton-Margaret River region will play host to the men’s championships from January 3-10 next year before the women’s championships descend on the region in January 2027.

WA will be hosting the championships for the first time in nine years, having most recently staged the 2017 edition of the tournament in Geraldton.

Australian Country Cricket Council and WA Country Cricket Board chair Rob Marshall said he was delighted to welcome the “the pinnacle event in the Australian country cricket calendar” to the State.

“To host these championships here in Western Australia and in the iconic Busselton-Margaret River region is a generational highlight and a significant boost for WA Country Cricket at all levels and is a must-attend for all cricket supporters and lovers of the game,” he said.

Busselton mayor Phill Cronin said the city was delighted to be playing a part.

“The championships will not only highlight our region’s passion for cricket but also inspire future generations of players and provide a platform for local talent,” he said.

“It’s an exciting time for cricket enthusiasts and we can’t wait to welcome some of the country’s top cricketers to the region.”

Augusta-Margaret River shire president Julia Meldrum said the championships would “celebrate both men’s and women’s cricket while showcasing our region’s facilities, growth and support for country cricket.”

The South West supplied the majority of the players for WA’s sides at this year’s championships, which were held in South Australia’s Barossa Valley.

A 13-player men’s squad featured eight players from the region in Tim Hutchison, Liam Renton, Cruize Ciallella, Cooper Clarke-Dehring, Bradman May, Michael Tassone, Bryn Bursill and Cody Ryan, while Hollie Perkin, Molly Lincoln, Madison King and Matilda Richings represented the State’s women’s side.
