A property in Harvey and another in Waroona have claimed top honours at this year’s Master Builders-Bankwest South West Building Excellence Awards.

Harvey’s Hocart Lodge underwent extensive expansion works in 2017 and 2018 by Perkins Builders and was named Best Commercial Project at the awards ceremony on Saturday.

The $15 million expansion allowed for an additional 60 beds to be added to the facility, effectively doubling its capacity.

Hocart Lodge chief executive officer Ishbell Reid said in the lead up to the awards Perkins would be a worthy winner.

“They were very understanding in that we were still operational during the build and were very compassionate towards our consumers,” she said.

“If Perkins were to win, it would be an excellent recognition for them... we would be absolutely delighted.”

Perkins Builders business development manger Mark Parish said the award for Hocart Lodge was unexpected but welcome all the same.

“We were surprised because it was a lower profile build... but we’re extremely proud,” he said.

The South West Best Country Home was awarded to an American-inspired property on the fringe of Waroona built by Palazzo Homes which featured a designated pool wing and adjoining villa.

The huge five-bedroom residence also claimed prizes for Best Contract Home in the over $3.5 million category and trade awards for tiling and roofing.
