Bunbury triathlete Ryan Bailie is a shock omission from next year’s Commonwealth Games team, just over 12 months since finishing 10th at the Olympic Games.

The 27-year-old was overlooked by selectors for the team to compete at next year’s Gold Coast games, after a tough year on and off the track.

Bailie suffered a calf injury in July, missing months of action before returning in September to finish 18th in the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in Rotterdam.

Earlier this month Bailie finished third in the 2017 Noosa Triathlon, behind Jacob Birtwhistle and Aaron Royle.

Queensland’s Luke Willian and Matt Hauser and Tasmanian Jake Birtwhistle were picked in front of Bailie.
