BDCA 2023: More than cricket on Saturday between Marist and Leschenault at Forrest Park

The Marist Cricket Club will continue its commitment to recognising the importance of Indigenous culture on Saturday prior to their home clash against Leschenault at Forrest Park. Aside from donning Indigenous shirts, players from both the Blues and Green Caps will form a circle and listen to words of wisdom from respected local elder Les Wallam. Last year’s ceremony at Forrest Park was warmly embraced by all in attendance and Saturday is likely to be even bigger, given the Green Caps’ passion for getting behind cultural awareness. On the pitch, there is also plenty of significance, given the fact Marist found plenty of form during last weekend’s 62-run win over Colts at the Bunbury Recreation Ground. The win, which has kept Kyle Davis’ side in touch with the top-four, showed just how capable this talented group can be, irrespective of the opposition. Leschenault, who have yet to taste defeat this season, dominated Dalyellup last Saturday, although this will be a fair sterner test for them — particularly at a ground they have struggled to win at in recent times. Riding high with all of their big guns back from representative duty, Eaton will head into their home clash against Collie at the Eaton Sports Ground as red-hot favourites, although you can be sure skipper Liam Renton will not be skipping over any minor detail with the playing group. It will be a busy weekend for both the Bobtails and Blues, who both will also host T20 semifinals on Sunday against Donnybrook and Hay Park respectively. With the junior competition back in action, first grade matches will return to a 12.30pm timeslot, after starting at 10am during the school holidays.
