BDCA women’s first grade returns for its first fixtures of 2024 with top-of-the-table Donnybrook looking to stay ahead of the pack when they take on Colts, while Marist play Leschenault. Donnybrook will face Colts at the Bunbury Recreation Oval at 10.30am on Saturday after finishing 2023 in style with a 70-run win over Marist. The stakes are high for Colts who need to win to stay in the race for a top-two spot. A 35-ball 52 by opener Stephanie Jolly fired Donnybrook to 2-129 but she wasn’t done yet, taking two wickets in three overs and being involved in a further two run outs. Jolly’s all round heroics along with two wickets by captain Lisa Smith secured a comfortable win for Donnybrook. The last time the two sides met was back in round five when Donnybrook won comfortably by eight wickets in the one-day format. Shannen Jenkin was the star bowler in the first innings taking a five-for as she tore through the Colts’ middle order. Despite losing two early wickets in the chase, Jolly top scored with an unbeaten 42 off 31 balls to steer the defending champions home. Marist will host Leschenault at Forrest Park at 10.30am Saturday. The hosts will be desperate for a win to keep their top-two hopes alive. The two sides met in round eight when Marist won by three runs. Marist opted to bat first and posted 9-139 from their 30 overs, propped up by 47 runs from Gabrielle House. In response, Leschenault came just short of the target despite a 50 by captain Ella Harrison.
