BDCA women’s teams all have top two chance on final day as points from forfeit cast cloud over final standings

With just one weekend of the BDCA women’s first grade regular season left, all four teams will be chasing a spot in the qualifying final. While all four teams will play finals, the top two teams will have the chance to go straight to the grand final. But the finals positions may be determined off the field as points from a mutual forfeit between Donnybrook and Marist in round six are yet to be determined. Even with the uncertainty, Donnybrook have their place secured in the top two with six wins and two losses. They will travel to play Leschenault on Sunday at 10.30am at Leschenault Recreation Ground and face a side which can also secure a top two place if it takes the win. An upset could well be on the cards as Leschenault got the win in their last match in astounding circumstances, bowling Donnybrook out for 31. An undermanned Donnybrook side was completely rolled as the 15 extras accounted for more than double the runs of the top-scoring batter. Nargis Madadi (4-8) and Ava Dodds (3-8) ran riot with the ball, making it an easy chase and a seven-wicket win. If Leschenault lose it could open the door for Marist and Colts, who play each other on Saturday at 10.30am at Bunbury Recreation Oval. A Marist win and Leschenault loss would see Marist go into second on average points, with the points from the forfeit still at play. Colts would also need Leschenault to lose and improve their quotient to move up the ladder; this is a real possibility as the quotient gap is only 0.08. In their two meetings this year Marist and Colts have won one match each, so it is anybody’s game. The teams who finish in the top two spots will play the qualifying final. The winner goes straight to the grand final, while the loser will face the winner of the elimination final contested by the bottom two teams.
