Bunbury council request camping review

Kate FieldingSouth Western Times

Bunbury City Council has requested a regional review into free and low-cost camping options in the region.

The council passed eight recommendations from a Camping Grounds Working Group on Tuesday night but not before councillors voted to slightly amend the suggestions.

The group was formed to look at options for free or budgeted camping sites across Bunbury, but a report back to the council recommended it did not instigate free options.

In tabling an amendment to the recommendations, Deputy Mayor Brendan Kelly said his changes made the council’s stance on the subject “sure and affirmative”.

One of the “minor” changes included the council “develop” a formal position in regards to free and low cost camping, rather than “consider” its position following the review.
