The Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association has released its initial squads across all grades for Sunday’s opening day of the 2023 Alcohol Think Again senior country week championships in Perth.

It has nominated five teams for the carnival despite a club-based T20 competition still running throughout January.

In A-Section, the Blue Swans will field two teams as they battle to retain their title. Unfortunately, the make-up of both first-grade sides will be starkly different, given the fact some headline players, including Julian Crudeli and Cruize Ciallella, are away representing WA Country at the national country cricket championships in Canberra.

Traditionally the first day of the carnival is viewed as extremely critical, given the fact a victory can make reaching the final considerably easier.

Initial squad

A-Section: BDCA number one (to play Esperance on Sunday at 10am, Sutherlands Park, Huntingdale) Blair Malatesta (c), Cory Fitt, Shehzad Gondal, Robbie Dawson, Jonah Lincoln, Bradman May (wk), Zane Verhaaf, Liam Renton, Nico Le Roux, Mitchell Boyle, Cooper Clarke-Dehring, Tyne Dodds.
