As bushfire season fast approaches, Bunbury Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Bunbury Volunteer Bushfire Brigade have joined forces to deliver important information to the community.

The groups have formed a Community Bushfire Preparedness Team to help people prepare their own homes and families for fire season.

Even though Bunbury is a built-up city it’s surrounded by bush areas, VFRS volunteer Benn Prowse said.

“It’s important to have a bushfire plan in place, and that’s what these sessions are about,” he said.

You’re often left with two decisions — to leave or defend, so you need to know what to do.

Mr Prowse said the sessions would help break down the different public warning levels of advice, watch and act, and emergency warning.

The team will also be available to help people create their own bushfire plan and provide other valuable advice.

A bushfire community awareness and information workshop is being held on Saturday from 10am at the Bunbury Museum.

The collaborative team is offering to present a bushfire preparation workshop to any interested organisation within the Bunbury region.

Bookings are essential for Saturday’s session. Those interested in attending or in organising a workshop for their school or community group, can contact 0418 360 060, stn190@bigpond.net.au or Bunbury VFRS on Facebook.
