Bunbury Fringe 2023: ‘Accidental’ wine-tasting drag queen Donna Kebab to host Wine & Drag at The Rose Hotel

Bunbury Fringe-goers will have the opportunity to experience a wine tasting with a fabulous twist of drag comedy as the “accidental wine tasting drag queen” ventures to the South West. Donna Kebab is set to host Wine & Drag at Bunbury’s The Rose Hotel on January 27 as one of Bunbury Fringe’s ‘Buddy events’. Wine & Drag is not like any other wine tasting event, except patrons will have a drag queen – who is not a wine expert - talking you through it. Speaking to the South Western Times, Donna Kebab said wine experts would be on hand to say “the important stuff” while she “sprinkles comedy and a bit of silliness”. “It’s a wine tasting event with a bit of an edge,” she said. “It started off as part of Cabin Fever in Dunsborough two years ago and it just blew up – the whole of Dunsborough knew about it and the whole of Dunsborough were waiting for another one to happen. “I kind of accidentally became the wine tasting drag queen of the South West.” Along with the wine tasting, Ms Kebab will also perform several numbers throughout the night. “You can’t have a drag queen without them doing a few routines,” she said. Ms Kebab said people could expect fabulous performances along with crude humour. “I always start my shows with ‘if you don’t like strong language and crude humour, now is the time to f… off’,” she said, laughing. “You’re going to be questioning your sexuality a little bit, especially because I’m always in a short skirt with big boobs. “I make wine tasting even sexier.” While Ms Kebab considers herself a “Fringe veteran”, she said she was very excited to finally be part of the Bunbury Fringe festival. “I’ve done Busselton Fringe and Perth Fringe but I don’t think I have actually done Bunbury Fringe before, so I’m excited to see how the Bunbury crowd turn it out,” she said. “The shows I have done in Bunbury, people always show up and have the best time and they always treat you like family. “I always have a good time in Bunbury and I am a good time gal.” Bunbury Fringe Festival kicks off from January 20.
