Bunbury hairdresser Jessica Brine is making big waves in the industry after being named a finalist in the Goldwell Colour Zoom national competition last week.

The achievement came less than a month after the young stylist from Bunbury’s SOHO for Hair and Beauty was hand-picked to work behind the scenes of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

The 25-year-old is the only finalist from WA to make the top 10 and is the only regional finalist in the New Talent Category.

If she wins, Miss Brine will represent the country in the global competition, held this year in Toronto.

“I honestly did not expect it.

“When I got the call... I have never felt so many butterflies in my stomach,” she said.

“I feel like I am still on a high from the whole thing.”

This year’s competition required entrants to create a look fitting with the theme “elemental”.

Miss Brine drew on rocks and minerals to inspire her colouring and styling to fit in with the theme and in keeping with the minimalist trend.

“Every little detail matters, you were scored on your model’s look, make-up, presentation and the detail into describing your process,” she said.

“If you put your mind to it you are capable of everything.

“Now making it to the finals, I have high hopes I am going to win it.”

Miss Brine said she would not be the person she was today without the support of her boss Kym Harvey, colleagues and family.

“I made this year about my career and this year has seemed to be the best year by far,” she said.
