Bunbury police investigate links after spate of fires

Kate FieldingSouth Western Times

Police are this morning investigating whether a spate of fires across Bunbury this week are linked.

Several blazes near Usher and Dalyellup have been labelled as suspicious and Bunbury police have confirmed they are investigating.

The fires started on Monday night when a blaze burnt through more than 2ha of bushland near Centenary Road in Usher.

Firefighters were then called to another blaze on Tuesday night near Centenary and Parade roads in Usher.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services was forced to issues a bushfire advice last night for a separate fire near Bussell Highway and Harewoods Road in Dalyellup.

Police are also investigating whether an industrial building fire near Dodson Road in Davenport overnight is suspicious and also linked.

Police are working with detectives to investigate the incidents and have confirmed they are liaising with Operation Vulcan officers.

Strike Force Vulcan identifies and monitors arsonists, provides high visibility patrols and provides a rapid investigative response to deliberately lit fires.

Police use numerous tools to help catch arsonists, including covert cameras and surveillance.

The maximum penalty for arson in Western Australia is life imprisonment.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
