Beautiful curling petals and a purple-fringed labellum, this white spider orchid captured the hearts of judges for the Kings Park Flowers in Focus competition. The budding flower was shot in Bunbury’s Manea Park by Perth amateur photographer Gary Tate and earned him fifth place in the awards. A passionate wildlife photographer, Mr Tate said he used to visit Bunbury regularly as a child and fell in love with Manea Park and the biodiversity on display. “It’s a beautiful patch of bush that Bunbury should be proud of having,” he said. The Flowers in Focus competition offers student, amateur and professional photographers the chance to help promote the beauty of WA’s diverse flora.
