Capel votes in zero increase

South Western Times

A 0 per cent rates increase for the Shire of Capel is on the way after the council voted in favour of officers drafting the 2020-21 budget on the basis of no net increase in Rates revenue.

The motion was passed 5-3 after an extensive debate and retained the current system of differential rates.

Shire president Michael Southwell said simple and inexpensive measures could be taken to make no increase work.

“I am pleased with the outcome of Monday’s Special Meeting of Council, with some important decisions made by council,” he said.

“In the current poor economic climate and time of low inflation and wages growth it is time to take the pressure off homeowners.”
