Capel woman Janet Wilson fined $700 for growing cannabis in vegetable garden and not properly storing firearms

A Capel woman has been fined a total of $700 for growing cannabis in a veggie patch as well as inadequately storing two firearms on her property. Janet Wilson appeared in Bunbury Magistrates Court on Monday, where she pleaded guilty to cultivating a prohibited plant and inadequately storing firearms. The court was told police searched Wilson’s residence in Capel during the morning of March 10 last year. Officers uncovered eight cannabis plants that had been growing in a vegetable garden on the property, as well as a shotgun and a rifle that were wrapped in towels inside a bedroom cabinet. Wilson told police the cannabis plants were for personal use and tended to the plants daily. It was also submitted the firearms were for recreational shooting. Along with the $700 in fines, Wilson was also ordered to pay court costs.
