As the 2019 Targa Bunbury Sprint draws closer, Chicane Team Racing’s biggest fan is preparing to cheer on his favourite team and car.

Kingston schoolboy Chad Logan, 6, first came across the team and its Toyota Celica GT4 wrapped in classic Castrol livery at the 2017 Shannons Show n Shine on Victoria Street the day before that year’s sprint event.

At the sprint, Chad was trackside bright and early to cheer on his new favourite car and returned in 2018 where he was able to reunite with the team and admire the car once again.

“It’s a cool looking car and I like its colours,” he said.

“Meeting the team was exciting and I want the car to win.”

Gene Schneider is the proud co-owner of the 1995 Toyota Celica GT4 in question and said he was looking forward to meeting Chad again and seeing how much he had grown.

“Last year we went down again and he sought us out, we got some photos with him and decided to give him a picture of the car with the team’s signatures on it to hang on the wall,” he said.

“We’ve already ear-marked catching up with him this year.”

Chad’s dad Kendall, a former Targa driver himself, was the one who ignited the boy’s passion for cars and described it as something they could share as father and son.

“He’s got his own calendar where he marks off the days until he can see ‘his car,’ which is the Celica GT4,” he said.

This year’s Targa Bunbury Sprint will be held on June 23.
