Childhood cancer focus
Mildura man Simon Dowdle has stopped off in Bunbury on his solo tour around the nation to raise awareness for childhood cancer.
Mr Dowdle said he was inspired to spread the message about children’s cancer after a friend’s daughter passed away at the age of six.
“I’ve always wanted to travel Australia so I thought why not do that with my friend’s charity called Braver, Stronger Smarter to raise awareness about childhood cancer,” he said.
“Eva was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma.
“It is a soft tissue cancer that was in her left arm. They took her left arm off in January y 2014 and unfortunately in October 2014 they found the cancer had spread and sadly she passed away.”
Mr Dowdle said he was dressed in purple to represent Eva’s favourite colour.
“I’m trying to wear the shirt in as many photos as possible and the gold hat also represents childhood cancer awareness month which just finished in September,” he said.
Mr Dowdle said his aim was to raise awareness for children’s cancer and travel the country at the same time.
“I originally was going to travel to raise awareness but then people were asking me how to donate so I’ve now set up a page where people can donate and I’m up to roughly $3000.”
Simon began his tour on May 26 and plans to continue his lap around the country to raise awareness and money for Eva’s parents foundation, Braver, Stronger, Smarter.
