City of Bunbury continues bid to reduce emissions to net zero by adding electric vehicle to corporate fleet

A decade after becoming the first WA local government area to introduce the three-bin FOGO system, the City of Bunbury has bolstered its efforts in reducing its corporate emissions to net zero. The City of Bunbury has introduced its first electric vehicle to its fleet by acquiring a Nissan Leaf, which has quickly become a hit as a pool car among City staff. In addition to the Leaf, the City has also taken possession of two electric path sweepers. It comes as the City continues making progress on preparing its sustainability and environment strategy, which is set to include targets and actions to reduce the City’s corporate emissions to net zero and improve overall environmental sustainability in Bunbury. City of Bunbury Mayor Jaysen Miguel said it was exciting to see the first electric vehicle join the City’s fleet. “The City has committed to prioritising and considering sustainability initiatives and options, and this is an important step forward for the City’s operations,” he said. “It is hoped that this electric vehicle is the first of many for the City and I look forward to seeing it out and about in Bunbury.” At 100 per cent electric, the Leaf produces no tailpipe emissions and is quieter than a conventional car. Running at just 15 cents per kilometre, it is hoped the vehicle will help the City save money on maintenance and servicing as well as fuel and ongoing costs.
