Clubs aim to take their revenge

All Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association clubs play their last full 50-over fixture before the festive season on Saturday.

It is a particularly significant weekend for Marist, Dalyellup Beach and Hay Park, who all hope to get revenge for earlier defeats.

Arguably, the Redbacks have the toughest assignment of the trio.

Sitting pretty on top of the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association points table are Eaton Beavers, who take on the Redbacks at Hay Park for the second time this season.

The Beavers have been busy of late, with import Chris Marrow warming to his task with a fine century a couple of weeks ago.

He holds a healthy average of 110 and skipper Clint Hewson has also regained his touch. Throw Corey Fitt, Ricky Marsh, Mat Foreman, James Hillery and Jake Rudd into the mix and it appears a tall order for the Redbacks bowlers.

The Redbacks were rolled for 69 last time they met the Beavers, but they do have ace opener Jono Whitney, Fraser Thompson and rising stars Graham Yates and Michael Tassone to back up rejuvenated bowlers Grant Milbanke, Reon Tither, Thompson and Shaun Bulman. Reigning premiers Colts, second to Eaton, take on Marist, who are struggling at the foot of the table with only one win.

Colts’ much-vaunted top order have struggled lately and will be without teenager Jayden Goodwin, who scored 64 last time the two met.

Pressure will be on the batsmen to play themselves in and build a defendable target against an opposition desperate for victory.

In the remaining game of the round, Leschenault host Dalyellup Beach.

The Green Caps, who lost their first two matches of the season, have steadily climbed up the ladder.

Last time they met, the Green Caps scored 5-284 and kept the Beach Boys to 221 at Dalyellup College Oval.

Considering their recent form, they will enter Saturday’s match as favourites.
