The Collie community has rallied behind a good cause, collecting food to be donated to those in need.

Volunteers gave up their time to collect food donations from Coles on behalf of Feed It Forward — a volunteer initiative in collaboration with food rescue organisation Second Bite.

For me it’s always been about community, and what better way of helping all communities then ensuring people have food.

It aims to reduce the amount of preventable food waste and support communities in need.

Head coordinator Monica Morunga said the volunteers would now do weekly collections in Collie and would know where to best distribute the food.

“For me it’s always been about community, and what better way of helping all communities then ensuring people have food,” she said.

“The volunteers are locals and it’s great because they’re the ones who know where the need is in the community.

“Those who don’t, want to get to know the community while doing this to find where the need is — that’s the beauty of this.”
