Colts on top of Dalyellup on home ground

Colts made it two wins on the bounce after rolling to a 98-run win over Dalyellup Beach at the Bunbury Recreation Ground on Saturday. Despite showing plenty of endeavour in the field, the Beach Boys were unable to sustain it for long enough, with the experienced Colts batsmen eventually proving too good. With beautiful conditions for batting, the home side had no hesitation heading to the middle after winning the toss. But the hosts did not have it their own way in the early stages, with both Zane Verhaaf (0-41 off 10 overs, two maidens) and Jamahl Mulholland (1-52 off 10 overs) working exceptionally hard. Although their final figures do not necessarily reflect it, both bowlers were able to make both Joe Barningham and Declan Boston routinely play and miss. Verhaaf conceded only four runs from his first three overs, which included two quality maidens. Unfortunately for him, both batsmen managed to open the face of their bats from this point on, which resulted in his bowling copping some treatment. However the Beach Boys eventually got some reward for effort, with the injection of Rory De Vaney into the attack triggering a mini-collapse. At 3-50, the hosts needed some momentum to steady the ship and they got it through the meticulous Cruize Ciallella. His superb innings of 69 off 90 balls punctuated a wind of change at the ground, with late cameos from Murray Goodwin and Riley Miguel ensuring a tough assignment for the Beach Boys. Chasing 257 for victory, the visitors were blown away by Ciallella’s bowling (4-21 off 9.3 overs), with only Adam Bilston digging his heels in.
